Today I’m really pleased to be able to share you with you a beautiful Scottish Wedding of Nicole & Craig. Their wedding was able to take place outside on the banks of the extremely picuresque Loch Lomond in glorious sunshine, with pastel colours and a beautiful fitted lace wedding gown from Angelique Lamont Bridal in Glasgow. Wedding Day Photography captured by Gary Thomson of KGT Photography. Let’s see how Nicole remembers her Special Day.

The Proposal

We met 6 years ago in a local nightclub in Glasgow, few years later we moved in together.

Every New Years Day we went to his Grandparents house, on the 1st of Jan 2013 it was the first New Years without my husband’s Grandmother. She had sadly passed away a few months earlier. I suffer from back & Sciatica problems so I went home early and after a few hours Craig arrived home. I was upset and sore and he wasn’t showing any feelings. He kept telling me to sit up, I couldn’t understand why? Then all of a sudden he just got down on one knee and asked me…..I actually sat up and shut up. I was in shock. I kept saying “shut up”, it was so unexpected. It was made so special as Craig proposed with his Granny’s engagement ring. I couldn’t believe it. It’s a day I will never forget.

The Wedding Day

So fast forward to the 7th of August 2015. The day I was finally able to marry my best friend. We got married in a stunning hotel called the Buchanan Arms in Drymen, Loch Lommond.

The 2 weeks lead up to the wedding it had been raining non stop. At that point I realised all my dreams of getting married outside were out the window.

Suddenly the day before the wedding the clouds disappeared and the sun was sitting in the sky! I didn’t want to get too excited, it had to stay dry for me to get married outside. I awoke on the morning at 5am and the nerves truly kicked in and the sun was out! I couldn’t believe it we were getting our dream of getting married outside. Our venue was 5 mins from a gorgeous beach where we went to get photos after our ceremony.

The Wedding Dress

Now for my dress…OMG I still love my dress its very timeless. It’s a fitted lace gown with stunning bead and bling at the top with cap sleeves, but with a dramatic twist when I turned round, the back was open and each side of the dress had the detail from the front to the back. I got it from a local Bridal shop in Glasgow called Angelique Lamont Bridal.

The Theme

When it came to deciding a theme for the wedding there wasn’t one, I have a love of buttons and different colours so my bridesmaids all had different pastel coloured dresses. Their bouquets where made of paper flowers, my bouquet was made from buttons, broken jewellery, brooches and even earrings. My buttons were from family, from my husband’s side to mine, I even had some of Craig’s baby buttons on there, it made it so personal and unique.

Our table numbers and top table Mr & Mrs sign where all made with buttons which I made myself, I also made my horseshoe form buttons and diamontes which has got pride of place in a box frame on my wall.

For the evening I had a big basket of flip-flops for all the girls to change into, so they could ” rave the night away”. I also had baskets in the boys and girls toilets filled with hairspray, deodorant, breath freshener, hairbrushes and more. We also had sparklers and glow sticks beside our post box to really turn it into a party! As name tags we had photos of one of us with our guests on the table pinned to the wine glass. By night time they were all stuck to guests, it was so brilliant to see they loved the personal touch and took the photos home with them.

Our guest book was a Polaroid camera were guests had to take a “selfie” and add it to our book with a note. I wanted a candy cart but I didn’t want the usual. We love camper-vans and had one on our wedding to bring Craig and his Groomsmen to the venue so we had a family member make us a campervan candy cart! What a treat, our guests are still talking about it to this day.

Bargain Buys

My 2 biggest bargains were my wedding shoes. They where £20 from e-bay and my friend blinged them up for free. My bridesmaid dresses were £160 for 4 from e-bay. I couldn’t believe the quality and how stunning they were, they were just so perfect to stand beside my dress.

Brides Advice

My biggest advice for all future brides is to really enjoy the process. Invest in the best Photographer and Videographer, sometimes cheaper isn’t always better and these are the things that will carry the memories of your day. Have a go at some DIY, but don’t bite of more than you can chew. You don’t want to stress yourself out, be unique, and make sure your day is about you and not for anyone else.

I decorated the venue myself - I love being busy but looking back I should have just got a company to do it. I have now since set up my own company doing venue décor. It’s a real passion of mine and after 13 years in retail it’s been a scary change but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Best Moment of the Day

I loved every part of my day, but I have to say the moment I was standing with my Step Dad getting ready to walk down the isle and hearing my favourite song on the bag pipes. Then actually walking down and seeing Craig’s reaction to how I looked was just something I will never ever forget, nothing can capture how you feel. I am so glad I was able to take it all in.

Anyway, we thought it would be appropriate as there were so many proposals over the holidays to kick our wedding blog off in 2016 by looking at wedding planning. So we took a trial of WeddingTour by Gabriella Wood. A FREE online wedding planning tool that helps monitor your budget, guest list and much more.

Finally we rounded of the week, with a quick look at; probably not the most romantic side but rather more practical aspect of bridal lingerie, shapewear to go beneath your wedding dress.

We looked at the difference between wedding shapewear and bridal lingerie such as corsets and bustiers as well as what to consider when choosing which style of wedding shapewear to go beneath your wedding dress. – ‘Wedding Shapewear to go Beneath Your Bridal Gown‘.

That’s it for this week, we hope your wedding planning is going well and you find our wedding posts and features inspiring.

Q: Tell us about the proposal or tell us a little bit about how you met.

We were set up by friends 7 years ago, I had just come out of a relationship but Nic was quite persistent and it all started with a simple pint together in the local.

I put a selfie stick on each table much to the dispair of my husband but we got tagged in some brilliant pictures on Facebook as a result.

Wedding Photograph ideas

Q: What was your most favourite part of the day?

The ceremony and the speeches. The ceremony was in a garden and we were really lucky to have sunshine.

Wedding Speeches

Q: What advice would you pass on to brides for their actual wedding day itself ?

Spend the day with your husband, its so easy to get distracted separately. We made a point of staying together and I’m so pleased we shared the whole day. Also dance! Let your hair down, ask for cheesy music and dance til you drop.

Real Brides Weddings

Some great advice from Kadie, your Wedding Day is such a busy day and she’s right when she says it’s so easy to get wrapped up in it all, so remember to make time for yourselves and enjoy it! What a lovely day to start our Real Brides features off for 2016, and in great fashion all that remains to be said is for us to wish Kadie & Nic all the happiness and best wishes for a long and happy marriage from Moonrise! xx
