Bridal Underwear for Beneath Your Wedding Dress
Once you've found the wedding gown of your dreams you ought to turn your attention to finding suitable wedding underwear to go beneath your wedding dress. Many brides underestimate just how difficult a task it can be to find the right bridal lingerie to wear under their gown
What wedding underwear shall I wear beneath my wedding dress?
Before you start looking for your wedding day underwear, have a bit of a think of exactly what you want from your lingerie. Do you want to create an hourglass shape to your figure? Do you want a lot of support & figure shaping? Are you big busted and need support for your boobs? Would your preference be a wedding corset, a bridal bra or bridal shapewear?
These questions don't even begin to consider your style of wedding dress either. Don't forget that whatever wedding underwear you choose for your wedding day has to work in complete harmony with both you and your dress, be it a mermaid, column, or princess style with a sweetheart, boat neck or off shoulder neckline.
Try and think of your wedding day lingerie as the foundations that you're going to build your wedding dress on. Get it right and you can significantly enhance your final look; get it wrong, and your search for the perfect bridal underwear continues.
What style of wedding underwear will suit my dress?
Your style of wedding dress will already place some limitations and begin to narrow the search for the style of wedding underwear that you'll eventually end up buying for your wedding day. For example if you have an open neck or off the shoulder neckline design to your wedding dress then you'll need to start off by looking for a strapless wedding underwear solution. If you're a 36DD bra size or even bigger then you may need to start your search at plus size wedding bras and maybe strapless bridal bras at that.
The material of your wedding dress will also play a part in determining what bridal underwear will be suitable to wear beneath it. A light chiffon or close fitting satin gown will allow any heavy lace detailing to show through your dress. A white wedding gown will require a light colour or white wedding lingerie solution, the closer you match the colour of your lingerie to your dress the better.
Low or even open back wedding dresses are very popular at the moment which will require a low back wedding underwear option or perhaps a backless solution. Your underwear outline should remain hidden from view at all times and is one of the main reasons for having a fitting or at least trying your lingerie on with your dress a few weeks before your actual wedding day. You'd be surprised at how many brides don't even plan to do this which quite often results in disaster.
How much should I spend on my wedding day underwear?
Price ranges can vary hugely for bridal day underwear from £25 - £40 for a wedding bra up to £85 - £150 for a wedding corset or even more if it's made to measure. I tend to give our brides a rule of thumb of about 10% of what you spend on your wedding dress, so spend £800 on your dress and look around £80 for your lingerie as guide.
Your wedding day underwear is likely to cost more, especially if it's specialised or made to a higher or more luxury spec for your special day, so consider getting more from your lingerie than just the wedding day itself. Think of other outfits or events when you could possibly wear your wedding bustier or bridal bra again, or even treat yourself or husband to a bridal boudoir photography session & get some stylish images. When should I buy underwear for my wedding day?
Lots of brides leave buying their lingerie for the wedding day to the very last minute. You would be surprised at how many brides contact us just one week before the actual wedding looking for underwear to go beneath their wedding dress. It's not just a case of buying & trying like your normal everyday underwear, it needs to fit, and fit well, it needs to do so many jobs of supporting you, shaping you, creating a framework for your dress to sit upon as well as making you feel luxurious and elegant. It's really important to try everything on together, a dress rehearsal if you will, make sure it all compliments each other, move around, sit down, stand up and move around and make sure you're totally comfortable.
How do I measure for my wedding lingerie?
You could always get measured when you go for your dress fitting as your dress fitter will be able to give you your measurements for a bridal bra or a wedding corset as well as give you some advice on what sort of lingerie would suit your body shape & dress style. However if you're wanting to measure yourself, it's quite straight forward, and I'll be expalaining it in more detail in another article dedicated to getting measured for your bridal underwear.
Last but not least, don't forget the smaller bits & pieces like your bridal garter & wedding hosiery, be it white wedding stockings or lace hold ups. On that note, consider getting a spare pair of stockings or hold ups & leaving them with your Chief Bridesmaid in case of any ladders!"Moonrise Lingerie are an online lingerie store dedicated for brides, across the uk and worldwide.
