Couples spend weeks, months and even years to plan their perfect Wedding Day and you have to rely on family, friends and suppliers to make it all happen as you’d planned, but when one of the important elements is missing or goes wrong it can have the potential to ruin your day! My hairdresser turned up over an hour late on my wedding day and it sent a wave of panic across the whole preparations, when it should just be fun and laughter, and maybe the odd tear of joy thrown in for good measure! Anyway, today I introduce Ela Lapus, who runs her own business Home Hair and Makeup and has been for years. So we asked Ela what was important when it comes to hair and makeup for the big day…..

Home Hair & Makeup

Q: Tell us a little bit more about your business Home hair and Make up. How long you’ve been going and why you got started?

I run Home Hair and Makeup where I bring top quality hair and makeup services to the comfort of your own home at very affordable prices. I pride myself on giving a personal and professional service, and advising you on the best ways to care for your hair. I am a professionally trained hair and make-up artist and service Southeast London, Surrey, Essex and Kent.

Bridal hair and make up

Q: What advice, hints or tips do you have for our Brides to Be, when it comes to looking for make up & hair for their wedding day?

An enhanced natural flawless look is a must for any bride especially done with airbrush foundation.

Bridal hair styles

Q: What makes Home hair and make up stand out from the crowd and what can Brides expect from you for their hair & makeup?

I have always had a passion for hair and make-up, especially during my time as a professional dancer when I was immersed in the world of sophisticated glamour, and during which time I learned top make-up and hairdressing techniques.

bridal hair stylist

Q: How long in advance would you recommend Brides start looking at their hair & makeup for their wedding day & what is a sensible budget?

I can get pretty booked up through the year so I recommend finding the right hair & MUA well in advance. Please do not go for the cheapest! Research and check their work/testimonials. I do over 80 weddings a year so the business is very steady.

Q: What’s your biggest achievement to date? (Doesn’t have to be wedding related).

Biggest achievement in my life is still being able to do what i love at age 58 !!! I do not think i will ever retire unless I become physically unable.

Bridal hair combs & necklace

Q: What does the future hold for Home hair and make up?

I also create/make bridal hair accessories/jewellery now .  Check out www.facebook.com/bridalhairvines  and  www.bridalhairvines.com

It’s always one of my favourites to write a post on a real wedding feature, it’s just great to read about someone else’s Special Day, how they got on with the wedding planning, reading about their choice of colours and themes and then reading how their Wedding Day went. So today we share the Wedding of Nicole & Terrie, a beautiful Royal Blue colour theme that started with a romantic proposal……

real brides feature

Q: Tell us about the proposal or tell us a little bit about how you met.

I’ve known my wife, Terrie, for years as a family friend but we became really close about 3 years ago.
I proposed to her on Christmas Day 2014. I bought her a helium heart shaped balloon with “Will you marry me?”  written on it attached to a ring.  It came boxed so when she opened the box the balloon floated out and she read the balloon!

royal blue weddings

Q: When & where did you get married?

We got married on April 9th this year at our local registry office then afterwards our reception was held at a local family run pub.

royal blue weddings

Q: What colour/ theme did you choose for your wedding day?

We chose Royal blue bridesmaid dresses and colour theme to match…..our cake however also had the rainbow colours on it to.

rainbow wedding cake

Q: Do you have any hints or tips that you would pass on to brides that are planning their own wedding?

The only hints or tips I would pass on to other Brides is not to spend too much on room decorations. We had lots of bits and pieces on our tables but only a couple of banners on the walls and no one noticed the room decorations.  Also if your budget is small, eBay is amazing for gifts, accessories and table decorations.   Also we downloaded the Wedpics app. You invite your guests to add their own pictures onto the app that way you can see everyone’s photos. Don’t waste money on a photo booth. We brought photo props for the table and the photos people took were just as good.

Q: What was your most favourite part of the day?

I didn’t have a favourite part of the day, I felt the whole day was amazing from start to finish.

congratulations nicole terrie

The wedding season is getting into full swing with everyone’s Spring Wedding blossoming just around the corner. I thought we’d take a look at an Autumn or Fall coloured moodboard for those Brides still planning their Weddings later in the year.

burgandy_moodboard

Editor’s Favourites

Burgandy or cranberry is a lovely Autumnal colour for a wedding, suggesting a feeling of warmth and calm. Although a very powerful colour with many shades to choose it can be used very effectively to contrast with many lighter colours associated with weddings such as off whites, creams and ivory’s.

wedding-john

Used carefully it can be complemented very nicely with deep purples and even a hot pink. As it’s a very rich colour it can be overpowering if used too much, rather like a Cadbury purple if it’s overused.

open_back_bridesmaid_dress

I picked this open back bridesmaids dress, although it’s not strictly burgundy I thought the detailing was beautiful! Burgundy is very easy to bring into the Groom’s attire by adding to their buttonhole, tie, handkerchief or waistcoat. Floral arrangements can easily be broken up or complimented with light pinks, olive greens and silver.

Wedding_cake

Bridesmaids dresses can be completely burgundy or a lighter colour with a burgundy or cranberry sash/ belt with shoes to match.

burgandy_centrepiece

One of my favourites is the multitude of options you have when it comes to centre pieces and table/ venue decoration, which is why I picked the glass with a single floating candle along with cranberries resting on a thin tree cut. Very effective and relatively inexpensive to achieve a great look!

   bridal_bustiers

So what sort of a Bride are you when it comes to shopping for your Wedding? Are you cool, calm and collected when it comes to making decisions? Do you leave everything to the last minute and just take everything as it comes? Or are you the original Bridezilla, when you know exactly what you want and anything other than perfection is just a downright outrage and an utter personal insult?

gabrielle _wedding_bustier

When it comes to wedding underwear for your Big Day, don’t leave it to the last minute! Even if you’ve been losing weight and you hope to lose a few more pounds, get your bridal lingerie in plenty of time, about 6-8 weeks before your wedding day. At least you have enough time to ale sure it fits comfortably, and I don’t just mean for 5 minutes in a changing room, you should wear it for a while to make sure it’s really comfy and supportive. You’re going to be wearing it for the whole day, the last thing you want is to feel it riding up, falling down or digging into you.

bridal_basque_1

Give it some thought before you go shopping for your bridal underwear. Think about what style of lingerie is going to suit your figure AND your wedding dress. Whatever you choose, be it a bridal bustier, a wedding corset or a full bra and suspender set, it has to work in Harmony with you and your gown. Think of it as the foundation on which your wedding dress is going to sit on, if it’s no good then it’s not going to show you and your dress off to the max!

low_back_wedding_corset

Choose something that is going to give you support where you want it. If you’re big chested make sure they’re supported. If you want a smooth outline to your figure then look for a longline wedding corset or some bridal shapewear that’s going to give a nice contour to your shape. The main thing is that you’re comfortable in what you choose.

lucky_sixpence_wedding_garter

If you’re a Panic Bride and you’re an unusual size or a size that isn’t normally well stocked for some reason, then change your approach! You might well find your perfect bridal lingerie to go beneath your dress, but if it’s not a ‘popular/ common’ size or even if the colour isn’t right, then you’ll need some time to get it ordered! After all you want it to be perfect, don’t you?

Wedding Bell Stockings

If you don’t want to be a Panic Bride and leave everything to the last minute then order a FREE bridal lingerie catalogue from Moonrise Lingerie – “The Bridal Underwear Specialists” and get your wedding underwear all sorted!

 moonrise_wedding_blog

Following the success of Moonrise Garters last year, we decided to broaden the our handmade wedding garter collection to include a few more, let’s say, elegant garters for our Brides to choose from.

Take a closer look at what Tanya’s been creating with a needle and thread and her sewing machine here at Moonrise Wedding Garters.

It’s always a real pleasure writing about Real Brides and their Wedding Days, so we took time out to congratulate Nicole & Craig on their outdoor Scottish Wedding on the banks of the very picturesque Loch Lomond.

We then talked wedding favours. An area where most Brides try their hand at a bit of DIY, but beware before you do!

We caught up with ‘Can I Do You a Favour’ to see what they had to offer in the way of wedding favours as well as a few hints and tips on keeping within a budget!

That’s it for the time being. We’ll be off to MODA on the look out for new wedding lingerie collections as well some nice lingerie collections for our sister site Moonrise at Midnight!

Wedding favours along with invites and place names are things that Brides to Be often take on themselves for their own wedding day without realising just how time consuming it is making 50, 100, 150 or even more favours for their guests. So have a serious think before you choose which DIY tasks you take on for your wedding day. Sometimes it’s just better to leave industry professionals to do what they do! So we caught up with Laura from ‘Can I Do You A Favour‘ and picked their brains about wedding favours.

butterfly_favours

Q: Tell us a little more about ‘Can I Do You a Favour?’ Why you started & How long you’ve been going?

I started my little business in November 2012 , the main reason being so I could work from home and still look after my twin boys who were born June 2012. I’ve always been creative and because of this I made a lot of my own wedding stationery and favours for my wedding in 2010, I started off by offering favours which soon expanded into wedding stationery.

favours_for_weddings

Q: What are some of your most popular favours to your more bespoke/ specific wedding favours?

Our most popular favours are our lip and moustache lollipop favours. Boxed favours are popular too as well as scratch card/lottery ticket holders.

wedding_day_favours

Q: Many brides are on a budget. What advice can you give them on budget when it comes to their wedding favours?

All of our favours can have guests’ names put on, so therefore the cost of favours and place settings can be combined.

Traditionally favours are only for female daytime guests.

Maybe have a bowl/basket of favours for guests to help themselves to, rather than one per guest.

wedding_favours_burgandy

Q: What can Brides to Be expect when they come to ’Can I Do You a Favour?’ for their wedding favours?

A friendly, helpful and professional service that delivers on time and keeps you up to date along the way!

can_i_do_you_a_favour

Q: What advice can you give our Brides to Be when it comes to planning their wedding day?

Do your research! If it’s too good to be true then it probably is! Think about the elements that matter the most to you as a couple and get them sorted, then any spare budget can be spent on a few little luxuries.

Charity_donation_favours

Q: Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions? & What are they? (Just for fun)!

To get fit! Cliche I know but joined the gym and did my induction today! Will need to be organised too!

Today I’m really pleased to be able to share you with you a beautiful Scottish Wedding of Nicole & Craig. Their wedding was able to take place outside on the banks of the extremely picuresque Loch Lomond in glorious sunshine, with pastel colours and a beautiful fitted lace wedding gown from Angelique Lamont Bridal in Glasgow. Wedding Day Photography captured by Gary Thomson of KGT Photography. Let’s see how Nicole remembers her Special Day.

The Proposal

We met 6 years ago in a local nightclub in Glasgow, few years later we moved in together.

Every New Years Day we went to his Grandparents house, on the 1st of Jan 2013 it was the first New Years without my husband’s Grandmother. She had sadly passed away a few months earlier. I suffer from back & Sciatica problems so I went home early and after a few hours Craig arrived home. I was upset and sore and he wasn’t showing any feelings. He kept telling me to sit up, I couldn’t understand why? Then all of a sudden he just got down on one knee and asked me…..I actually sat up and shut up. I was in shock. I kept saying “shut up”, it was so unexpected. It was made so special as Craig proposed with his Granny’s engagement ring. I couldn’t believe it. It’s a day I will never forget.

The Wedding Day

So fast forward to the 7th of August 2015. The day I was finally able to marry my best friend. We got married in a stunning hotel called the Buchanan Arms in Drymen, Loch Lommond.

The 2 weeks lead up to the wedding it had been raining non stop. At that point I realised all my dreams of getting married outside were out the window.

Suddenly the day before the wedding the clouds disappeared and the sun was sitting in the sky! I didn’t want to get too excited, it had to stay dry for me to get married outside. I awoke on the morning at 5am and the nerves truly kicked in and the sun was out! I couldn’t believe it we were getting our dream of getting married outside. Our venue was 5 mins from a gorgeous beach where we went to get photos after our ceremony.

The Wedding Dress

Now for my dress…OMG I still love my dress its very timeless. It’s a fitted lace gown with stunning bead and bling at the top with cap sleeves, but with a dramatic twist when I turned round, the back was open and each side of the dress had the detail from the front to the back. I got it from a local Bridal shop in Glasgow called Angelique Lamont Bridal.

The Theme

When it came to deciding a theme for the wedding there wasn’t one, I have a love of buttons and different colours so my bridesmaids all had different pastel coloured dresses. Their bouquets where made of paper flowers, my bouquet was made from buttons, broken jewellery, brooches and even earrings. My buttons were from family, from my husband’s side to mine, I even had some of Craig’s baby buttons on there, it made it so personal and unique.

outdoor_wedding_loch_lomond

Our table numbers and top table Mr & Mrs sign where all made with buttons which I made myself, I also made my horseshoe form buttons and diamontes which has got pride of place in a box frame on my wall.

For the evening I had a big basket of flip-flops for all the girls to change into, so they could ” rave the night away”. I also had baskets in the boys and girls toilets filled with hairspray, deodorant, breath freshener, hairbrushes and more. We also had sparklers and glow sticks beside our post box to really turn it into a party! As name tags we had photos of one of us with our guests on the table pinned to the wine glass. By night time they were all stuck to guests, it was so brilliant to see they loved the personal touch and took the photos home with them.

finally_hitched

Our guest book was a Polaroid camera were guests had to take a “selfie” and add it to our book with a note. I wanted a candy cart but I didn’t want the usual. We love camper-vans and had one on our wedding to bring Craig and his Groomsmen to the venue so we had a family member make us a campervan candy cart! What a treat, our guests are still talking about it to this day.

Bargain Buys

My 2 biggest bargains were my wedding shoes. They where £20 from e-bay and my friend blinged them up for free. My bridesmaid dresses were £160 for 4 from e-bay. I couldn’t believe the quality and how stunning they were, they were just so perfect to stand beside my dress.

Brides Advice

My biggest advice for all future brides is to really enjoy the process. Invest in the best Photographer and Videographer, sometimes cheaper isn’t always better and these are the things that will carry the memories of your day. Have a go at some DIY, but don’t bite of more than you can chew. You don’t want to stress yourself out, be unique, and make sure your day is about you and not for anyone else.

I decorated the venue myself - I love being busy but looking back I should have just got a company to do it. I have now since set up my own company doing venue décor. It’s a real passion of mine and after 13 years in retail it’s been a scary change but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

scottish_piper

Best Moment of the Day

I loved every part of my day, but I have to say the moment I was standing with my Step Dad getting ready to walk down the isle and hearing my favourite song on the bag pipes. Then actually walking down and seeing Craig’s reaction to how I looked was just something I will never ever forget, nothing can capture how you feel. I am so glad I was able to take it all in.

What a stunning day! Myself and the rest of the team from here at Moonrise we wish Nicole & Craig all the very best for the future and a long and happy marriage!

Moonrise Lingerie are happy to announce that we have expanded our range of handmade wedding garters. The decision was made following the introduction of our very own bridal garter range last year including, ‘The Lucky Sixpence Garter’, ‘Diamond Dreams’ and ‘The Floral Cluster’ which proved very popular.

Vintage_pearl_garter

The new additions which are still handmade by our very own Tanya, were designed to include a little bit more sparkle and bling. The new bridal garter are based on more luxurious lace designs and include a lot more handsewn embellishments such as pearls, crystals & diamontes.

Our wedding garters can still be customised to your colour preference or wedding theme as well as size requirements. Recent requests have been for superhero themes, Manchester United themed as well as novelty charms such as spanners and screwdrivers.

We are also happy to be able to offer another level to our personalised wedding garters in that we can now include your choice names and wedding date on the satin ribbon. So your wedding garter will truly be one of a kind!
