New Moonrise Lingerie Store Opening Soon

Moonrise Lingerie Underwear Bristol

Less than 4 weeks ago we got handed a set of keys to the premises that are to house our first lingerie shop in the Crown Glass Shopping precinct, Nailsea, Bristol. As excited as we were, the fact that all we had was an empty shell didn’t quell the excitement and anticipation for what lay ahead. No ceiling, no flooring, no lights and no electrics and yet in just over 4 weeks time Moonrise Lingerie would be opening its own doors to the public for the very first time!

Our aim is to provide the women of Nailsea and North Somerset a lingerie shop to cater for their needs, be that, everyday underwear up to plus size bras, bridal lingerie including low back corsets & basques, sports wear, maternity bras and eventually mastectomy underwear as well as a fitting service that is of an exceptionally high standard.

We want our customers to leave our store with underwear that’s supportive, comfortable as well as stylish and fashionable. No more sighs of relief at the end of the day when it comes to unclasping a bra that’s been digging in, shuffling around and causing you to be constantly adjusting it throughout the day, with our fully trained lingerie fitters, you’ll leave our store feeling as if you’re not even wearing one!

Saturday the 27th August is our big open day where we will be offering FREE fittings, a butler serving drinks and snacks, a FREE gift for every purchase made in the day, a raffle to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Fund as well as face painting for the kids. So why not pop on down to see how the shop turned out and what we have to offer? We’d love to see you!

So what sort of a Bride are you when it comes to shopping for your Wedding? Are you cool, calm and collected when it comes to making decisions? Do you leave everything to the last minute and just take everything as it comes? Or are you the original Bridezilla, when you know exactly what you want and anything other than perfection is just a downright outrage and an utter personal insult?

When it comes to wedding underwear for your Big Day, don’t leave it to the last minute! Even if you’ve been losing weight and you hope to lose a few more pounds, get your bridal lingerie in plenty of time, about 6-8 weeks before your wedding day. At least you have enough time to ale sure it fits comfortably, and I don’t just mean for 5 minutes in a changing room, you should wear it for a while to make sure it’s really comfy and supportive. You’re going to be wearing it for the whole day, the last thing you want is to feel it riding up, falling down or digging into you.

Give it some thought before you go shopping for your bridal underwear. Think about what style of lingerie is going to suit your figure AND your wedding dress. Whatever you choose, be it a bridal bustier, a wedding corset or a full bra and suspender set, it has to work in Harmony with you and your gown. Think of it as the foundation on which your wedding dress is going to sit on, if it’s no good then it’s not going to show you and your dress off to the max!

Choose something that is going to give you support where you want it. If you’re big chested make sure they’re supported. If you want a smooth outline to your figure then look for a longline wedding corset or some bridal shapewear that’s going to give a nice contour to your shape. The main thing is that you’re comfortable in what you choose.

If you’re a Panic Bride and you’re an unusual size or a size that isn’t normally well stocked for some reason, then change your approach! You might well find your perfect bridal lingerie to go beneath your dress, but if it’s not a ‘popular/ common’ size or even if the colour isn’t right, then you’ll need some time to get it ordered! After all you want it to be perfect, don’t you?

What Shapewear Can I Wear Beneath My Wedding Dress?

Contrary to popular belief not every Bride places a high priority on the appearance of her wedding underwear that she wears on her Big Day. A lot of Brides place more emphasis on the practical aspects of what their bridal lingerie is doing for them rather than the aesthetics. After all your look is going to be captured in wedding photographs and maybe even a video and remembered over time to come, so there’s quite a bit of logic in that thought and so it’s understandable that Brides want to, shall we say, “smooth out the outline of their figure for the camera”!

What Does Shapewear Do That Wedding Corsets, Bras & Bustiers Don’t?

Well, both types of lingerie provide elements of support which is important for any Bride to Be on her Wedding Day. We emphasise to all of our Brides that comfort is key and that bridal lingerie needs to be working in complete harmony with both you and your wedding dress. However wedding shapewear, bodyshapers, spanx or whatever you choose to call them now use a lot of different materials and panelling in order to focus their ‘control & firming’ to dedicated areas such as the tummy, waist, bum, hips and thighs as required.

Bridal Shapewear isn’t Very Flattering for The First Wedding Night.

This is often true. Many Brides don’t want their new partners to see them climbing out of their beautiful wedding dress on their first wedding night and to be remembered wearing what resembles a swimming costume from the 1920′s! So many brides often have some wedding night lingerie for that first wedding night, a wedding babydoll or a chemise and even a bridal nightgown. It can be far more relaxing to talk about the day & enjoy the rest of the evening in something a little less restrictive than a wedding corset or full length bodyshaper that’s been pulling you in or holding you up all day.

What Shapewear Should I Choose?

Everyone is different in so many ways, height, weight, size and shape. So when it comes to deciding what wedding shapewear to choose to go beneath your wedding dress it really comes down to personal preference and what works with your dress design. Choose something that’s going to smooth and firm the areas you want and that’s going to be comfortable. Remember to have it for your final dress fitting though, it’s a bit late to find out your wedding morning that it doesn’t work well with your wedding dress!

So before you go in search of bridal underwear to go beneath you dress on your Wedding Day, just have a think about what you want it to do for you!

October 22, 2015

We’ve posted on a whole manner of wedding topics on our blog recently from shoes, jewellery, wedding cakes and even cake toppers, so I thought it high time we took a quick peek at our ivory bridal lingerie. What we have to offer from bridal basques, wedding bras right down to wedding stockings to show off those legs on thhe big day itself!

Bridal Basques

A bridal basque is great for offering support for the bust as well as holding you in slightly around the midriff. Although they’re very similar to a wedding corset, they generally have a lesser waist cinching effect and nor do they go as far as the hips.

Wedding Bras

Although many wedding gowns are structured and maybe don’t require wedding underwear, a great many brides simply feel uncomfortable with the idea of not wearing a wedding bra on their Big Day, for fear of falling out or just maybe not having that support that they’re used to everyday.

The addition of lace overlay creates are really nice romantic feel to wedding underwear sets, particularly this one with the deep suspender belt.

Don’t forget that a balconette wedding bra or more obviously a push up bridal bra can be a great way of adding a touch more definition to your bust if that’s what you’re wanting as well.

A more traditional full cup wedding bra will provide fabulous support throughout your wedding day. Don’t overlook the importance of wearing the correct size of bra beneath your wedding dress, it maybe worth getting measured before splashing out on your wedding day lingerie. The last thing you want to remember on your wedding is to have been fidgeting with your underwire or straps because they’re starting to dig in!

Queen Size or Plus Size Wedding Lingerie

It seems that anyone who sports a bust size bigger than a D cup needs to shop in a plus size category? I’d say even more important on your wedding day if you’re bigger busted as myself to have a correct fitting bra, but also a comfortable wedding bra. (For those who’ve followed us for any length of time, know only too well, that, that’s the reason of how Moonrise Lingerie came about)!

BEWARE! Self Promotion ALERT! Our very own Harmony Plus Size Bridal Bra set was designed exactly for the plus size bride in mind, not only to cater for sizes up to 36G, 38G, and 40H but also to be extrememely comfortable, offer multi strapping options and have a beautifully romantic and luxurious feel to it, at a price that isn’t going to break the budget!

Wedding Garters, Stockings & Accessories!

A wedding garter makes a great gift for any Bride to Be, and is an area where you can add a little bit of elegance to your wedding day wear or even have a little bit of fun with. We’ve been asked to add football pins, add satin bows in football colours, add clovers, lockets and our very own lucky sixpence garter has been a real favourite!

Don’t forget the little things like your wedding garter or your bridal stockings, it’s quite often the little things that just complete your look!

Wedding Bell Bridal Stockings

Choose with care when it comes to ivory wedding underwear as there are many different tones and shades of ivory from the very deep ivory’s that border on a yellowish colour to the very light, which are often an off white!

Don’t leave your wedding day lingerie to the last minute. Feel free to pop on over to our website at and have a look at all of our wedding corsets, basques, bra sets and wonderful accessories such as wedding garters, stockings and petticoats to help you finish your look for your Wedding Day?

Getting the right bridal underwear to go beneath your wedding dress on your all important wedding day can be quite a demanding task, especially if you’ve left it to the last few weeks, thinking you’ll just pop into town and pick something up! So I thought I’d have a quick look at wedding corsets, different styles of bridal corset, what they can do for you and a few pitfalls to look out for when choosing your wedding corset.

What does a Wedding Corset do for You?

A bridal corset is still quite popular with modern brides when it comes to choosing wedding lingerie for their big day, but sometimes it’s maybe not the most appropriate underwear to go beneath their wedding dress. A wedding corset is particularly designed to pull your figure in at the waist to assist in producing a smooth and sculpted hourglass shape to your figure.

It does this by it’s particular design and structured boning that helps to pull the waist in by anything from up to 2″ – 4″. Modern day corsets are not like the corsets of old that were quite uncomfortable and restrictive to the point of impeding breathing of the wearer! On this point of a corsets boning, it’s important to note whether your wedding gown already has a structured bodice with boning in it, because if this is the case, then a structured corset will be more than likely be far too restrictive and not required!

What Style of Bridal Corset will suit my Neckline?

Remember your bridal lingerie should remain a well covered secret, with your underwear line remain hidden well out of view of guests and cameras! So the neckline of your wedding corset must sit well below that of your gown.

Floral Tapestry Wedding Corset

A strapless wedding corset is great for off the shoulder gown styles and straight necklines, but if you’ve fallen for a sweetheart neckline with a low plunge or even a low back dress style, then again beware! The strapless wedding corset above carries another desirable feature, that of a double lace up tie back, which basically allows you, the wearer to set your own level of comfort or waist cinching effect with this personal adjustment!

Low Back Wedding Corsets for Low Back Bridal Gowns.

I touched briefly a little earlier about open back or low back wedding gowns that are very popular at the moment, which also brings along its own difficulties in finding suitable wedding lingerie to go beneath and provide the necessary support. Not all wedding dresses will accommodate, but a low back wedding corset can sometimes be a life saver for some Brides, as not everyone is comfortable with the idea of not wearing any underwear for their boobs!

What Lingerie will Suit a Close Fitting Gown or Silk Wedding Dress?

As mentioned your wedding undies need to be the unsung hero or heroine of your wedding day, by providing comfort and support all through your day as well as shaping and toning your figure to enhance your wedding dress. It has to do all of this whilst remaining hidden well out of sight. Although, a little more costly it has to be said, but, a seamless wedding corset could come into it’s own here and fit nicely beneath a silk wedding dress or indeed a close fitting gown style.

When Do I need to get My Wedding Underwear?

If a corset is not your normal choice of lingerie or underwear, even if not just for special occasions, then make sure you allow plenty of time to shop around and find the right wedding corset for you. In doing so, you’ll give yourself plenty of time to get used to wearing it, trying it on with your final dress fitting to make sure it works in harmony with both you and your wedding dress. The morning of your wedding is far too late to find out your beautiful bridal corset doesn’t work with your perfect wedding gown!

If you need any further help in finding a wedding corset for your wedding day then please get in touch with us here at Moonrise Lingerie by e-mailing or via any of our social media links below!

Good luck and the very best of wishes for your Wedding!

Something old,

something new,

something borrowed,

something blue,

and a silver sixpence for her shoe!

Lucky Sixpence Wedding Garter

A traditional saying that I’m sure even most modern Brides will be aware of? It stems from Old English folklore I believe that the silver sixpence is to bring good luck to the happy couple and that the something blue and something old is said to distract the Evil Eye, believed to render the new bride barren!

Not being ones to break a long standing tradition or English folklore, Tanya, of Moonrise Lingerie has recently introduced her very own ‘Lucky Sixpence’ wedding garters. Made from a very light ivory lace and wonderfully finished with a baby blue ribbon and bow with a lucky sixpence charm for the upcoming Bride to Be.

Personalised Wedding Garters

Tanya makes her wedding garters herself, and the beauty is that she is able to change the colour of the ribbon and bow to suit the colour theme of your wedding as well as being able to make a wedding garter to suit any size of leg!

Football Team Wedding Garters

Following on from the success of her ‘Lucky Sixpence’ garter and from many requests, Tanya has continued to design some lovely new wedding garter designs. Many of these have been specific to a Brides request from an Irish themed garter in green with a lucky four leaf clover charm to garters with a favourite football teams colours, either their own team or that of their new hubbies team!

Tanya’s new garters have really caught the eyes of many new Brides to Be who have even been kind enough to send her a nice review once they’ve received their personalised wedding garter, click here to read what our Brides to Be have had to say!

If you’d like your own wedding garter with a slightly personalised touch in some way then feel free to get in touch with Tanya at and put her to the challenge! Her garters range in price from £8 to £16.99 depending on the design you would like.

You can always ‘LIKE’ our Facebook page and see what other fanciful designs Tanya comes up with for other Brides to Be!

As you know already, I run a bridal lingerie company which is going very well. However, I am always looking for new things to do to make my business different from others. Over the past year and half I have been working on designing out very own plus size bridal bra which will have a matching brief or thong and that too is all going well and shall be out soon.

I have found it really interesting designing our own bra and exciting knowing that I am creating something special for my company. The only part of designing that I had not done is the making of a bra!

So, I booked myself on a bra making course!

Here is how I did…

To start with I made a toile sample to check that the size is correct and does not need altering.

This sample was a great fit.

Once a toile sample has been done and I know it is correct I then start to cut out the patterns with the material chosen…

I have chosen a lovely black lace with a deep purple colour running through it for my top cup, and a black stretch mesh with small white polka dots on for the top cups.

I have not started to piece together my individual bra parts by tacking them before sewing them into place.

Now all my cup pieces have been sewn together, this is the result!

It is now starting to take shape.

The next step in my journey to making my own bra is to join the cups together and attach then to the side panels and add the straps.

I have had such a great weekend making this bra… I now look forward to making the matching brief.
