Emergency at Pamella & Dean’s Wedding

There are times in life when you get a that strange feeling in the bottom of your stomach when you just know that something’s not quite right. That’s what happened to Pamella on her special day, luckily she took it all in her stride and didn’t let it ruin an amazing day!

I met Dean on holiday in Portugal  6 years ago and he proposed 6 months later.  We married in St. Nicholas church in Canewdon on 28th July.

I had trouble finding a dress that I loved….I tried on so many…I liked them all but never found “the one”! So I bought one that I liked and had it made into one I loved! It was a dress from wed2b. I didn’t like the netting on it and the train was too long so both had to go. I then had a skirt made for over the top with a smaller train and I loved it!

We didn’t have a theme for our wedding day, I used my favourite colours, purple, lilac, white, cream. The bridesmaids wore purple dresses. The Groom, his Dad, the Best Man and my Son, who gave me away, all had ties and handkerchiefs to match the bridesmaids dresses. We had a horse & carriage and the horses wore a purple feather head dress. My table centrepieces had a mix of all these colours.

The morning of the wedding was very relaxed. Myself and 1 of my bridesmaids (we had 5) stayed at a hotel the night before so no one would see me before arriving at the church.

The wedding was at 2pm so we had a few glasses of prosecco as we got ready. The photographer was due at 12 and arrived early which then threw us into turmoil! We were rushing about to join the other bridesmaids for photographs before we were picked up. I think this is were things started to go haywire!

The horse & carriage ride to the church was wonderful, it was a bit windy, but no way did I want the roof covering us, so I was rather windswept when we arrived at the church. During the ceremony my husband to be tried to put his ring on my finger which gave us the giggles, then there was a mix up with the music and we walked out to here comes the bride, it just made us laugh more.

Outside for photographs the wind had really picked up and my dress/skirt was blowing up over my head. The photographer then wanted us to go back inside the church for more pics. I could see my husband was getting a bit agitated but brushed it off. Little did I know the photographer had had a call from the best man to tell him to keep us there as long as possible while they tried to make safe the smaller marquee which had started to move in the strong wind. The horsemen had also been asked to take a longer route back to the house. My husband had guessed there must be something wrong.

On the journey back to house I could here sirens behind us so I informed the horsemen, the fire brigade had seen horses ahead and turned off the sirens as they got closer. At that moment one of the horses started neighing and jumping to the left. The horsemen pulled the carriage over and discovered the bolt that holds the horses together must of come loose and had dropped off, one of the ran up the road to find it as the fire brigade passed us. We joked that maybe the caterers had set fire to something.

On arriving back home the fire brigade was parked in our field and everyone was running towards us. Our smaller marquee had took flight and landed on top of the main one! There was chaos and panic all around us but we couldn’t stop laughing. My new husband had organised a string quartet as a surprise for me when we got back and they had been removed from inside by the firemen and we playing in the garden. We asked the caterers to carry on with the drinks outside, drinks were handed out and the string quartet played while the firemen did their job. It was fantastic! 2 hours later when all was made safe the firemen posed with us for some photographs.

The 2 hour extra drinking time and all the excitement before the wedding breakfast certainly got everyone in a good mood and everyone was in party mode by the time we finished the speeches! The evening guests started to arrive soon after and were excited to hear the tales of the day. We had an 8 piece band for the night, Glitterball The Band, and before we knew it the 1st dance was over and the night was in full swing. I got to bed a lot earlier than some of the others, 4.30 am! What a fabulous night.

We have a large garden and 2 fields at home where the reception was being held. We had the main marquee in one and as we had a lot of guests coming from Liverpool there was motorhomes and tents in the other.

As ppl were staying for the weekend we wanted to keep everyone entertained and had made some games for everyone to play and had a north vs south competition. I’m from Liverpool Dean is from Essex. We started at 4.30 with a BBQ at 6 and another band for the evening, The singsong Club. They brought shakers, tambourines and an extra mic so anyone could join in. They were fantastic!

I would never of expected our wedding to make the news but it did…It was in The Southend Echo….The Liverpool Echo…..The Mirror online…..The Mail Online and will be in a national magazine! How funny?

My advice to other brides would be not to panic, if something does go wrong only you would know so it won’t bother anyone. I didn’t bother with favours and they were neither missed nor mentioned.
