Royce Lingerie Specialist.

October is such a special month,  we all join together to help raise money to beat cancer!

I thought I would take this opportunity to write a short blog post about our non wired, mastectomy bras supplier, Royce Lingerie who will be donating £1 from every bra  they sell throughout the whole of October.

IMG_3324

Royce are world leaders when it comes to non wired bras. They have been specialising and producing wire free since the early 90s. Royce have designed a truly outstanding mastectomy bra that is innovative in style, superbly comfortable and containing X-Static silver fibre to aid the healing process.

IMG_3233

I recently had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners Jane Fleming, when I attended their in house advance training program and factory tour.

IMG_3320

This was such a wonderful experience, being able to meet, measure and fit some truly remarkable ladies who had undergone mastectomy surgery (single or double!).

The ladies told us of there experiences and later allowed us to measure and fit them in lingerie from the amazing range that Royce offer.

 IMG_3240

Royce are very dedicated to what the do and helping ladies who require non wired bras in all areas, not just mastectomy. They have utilized the technologies and designers they have to create a teen bra collection which feature sizes 28AA- 36D, a beautiful non wired collection in a full range of sizes and a maternity collection which range up to a 40K!

Royce is enormously proud to be a British company.  All our products are designed by our dedicated and gifted team here in UK, and we know that our customers – along with discerning people the world over – appreciate the design excellence as well as the quality and craftsmanship that go into creating the ‘Best of British’.

If you’re a Bride to Be and soon to be wed and just don’t know where to start when it comes to what to wear beneath your wedding dress, then this might just be of some help. We find many Brides leave finding their wedding underwear to the last minute, either they’ve been losing weight before the big day or they think it will simply be a case of popping into town to pick something up. Unfortunately this tends not to be as straight forward as they imagine.

 trio bra image

A wedding dress is a really special dress not just by its very nature but by its design and fit as well, so quite often requires some special lingerie for your wedding day. This is really why it shouldn’t be left to the last minute and taken for granted that it will be an easy task. So where do you start when looking for your bridal underwear? Whatever you decide upon, it’s important that it works in complete harmony with you and your wedding gown.

 Miette_cream_wedding_corsetPC-ball-gown-bride

If your dress already has a lot of boning throughout the bodice then a wedding corset with plenty of boning is more than likely going cause some discomfort. Resist the temptation when you hear a corset can take up to 4″ off your waistline in seconds. Properly fitted they can, but the 4″ has to go somewhere! A wedding corset is very good at helping to shape and sculpt your figure to a more hourglass silhouette and providing support over your midriff. Some bridal corsets also have underwired cups and also give good lift, support and shape to your bust too!

christina_wedding_corsetchiffon-eyelash-lace-bride

Many wedding dresses have sweetheart or bateau necklines and therefore require a style of strapless wedding lingerie to go beneath. This is where it begins to get more tricky and even more so if your size tends to be less well stocked in high street shops, so a bit more time and patience is called for. A strapless wedding bustier could work well for this style, it would still provide some shaping to your figure as well as underwired support for your breasts.

lace_wedding_bustierparallex-gallery4-533x800.dm.edit_wf4Zr7

It’s important to get fitted and go and try on bridal bras, you want to make sure it doesn’t give you a bulge over the top of the cup or alternatively that the cups don’t fall forward when you lean over, leaving you feeling unsupported and exposed! A dress that is made from a light material, such as silk or satin may also show any fancy lace edging or a heavily padded cup will be quite noticeable. Your wedding day lingerie should be the unsung hero of your wedding day, comfy and supportive and not seen by your guests and photographer!

Comfort has already been mentioned a few times, because it’s important. Your wedding day does pass by quickly but comfort really is king, so bear this in mind when it comes to your undies. If you’re not a thong kind of person then your wedding day is not the day to try. You don’t want to be fidgeting and shuffling all through your day trying to get comfortable, stick to briefs or hip huggers if that’s what you’re used too! You can get underwear that don’t have elasticated edges so don’t show the dreaded VPL!

bridal_brief

Shapewear is quite a popular option these days with brides wanting to make sure that everything is tucked in to look their best in the wedding photographs. Bridal shapewear has evolved quite markedly over the years with some nice pieces available in whites and ivories to suit dress colours. When it comes to colours, try and make sure that you get bridal underwear that matches the colour of your dress. Most important of all is to try your wedding day lingerie on with your dress at some point to make sure they compliment each other and you’re comfortable!

Not only is this an eye catching wedding corset that will leave your newly wed speechless when they see you on your wedding night, it also offers some great features to go with your wedding gown. This popular low back wedding corset is well suited to backless and sweetheart styles of wedding dresses because of its low back, which sits perfectly placed below your shoulder blades for comfort whilst at the same time maintaining its support structure.

It is made from a delicate lace at the front, whilst the back is a soft stretch mesh which allows it to mould to your bodies natural curves leaving a stunning silhouette.

Welcome to Chic Blooms – Artificial Silk Flowers

chic_blooms_wedding_flowers

It’s nearly been a whole year since we first opened our doors here in the Crown Glass Shopping Centre, Nailsea near Bristol. Today we’d like to welcome Lisa from Chic Blooms and wish her all the very best in her new venture. I popped along to speak to Lisa to find out a bit more about her artificial wedding flowers and silk floral arrangements.

artificial_wedding_flowers_bristol

Q: How and why did Chic Blooms come about?

Chic Blooms established two years ago, started as a hobby from home creating vaious silk floral arrangements.  Having recieved lovely positive compliments and orders from family and friends gave me the inspiration to start selling to the public online in the UK and worlwide.I have steadily grown busier over the past two years creating resin water displays to bridal bouquets and table arrangements and decided to make a positive move to look for a shop to display all my floral creations. I was very lucky to be able to find a shop suitable at Crown Glass Shopping Centre, Colliers Walk, Nailsea where I started trading May 2017.

Silk_wedding_flowers_chic_blooms

Q: What are the advantages of having silk wedding flowers instead of real flowers?

Many years ago Silk Flowers looked so unrealistic and was made of plastic but now have come a very long way to looking attractive and very life like with the advantage of not dieing like real flowers. I will only purchase quality silk flowers that will not fade or attract dust and with many hayfever sufferers this is a great advantage to my customers.

wedding_flowers_nailsea

Q: Are you able to match your flowers to the colour scheme of the wedding and what do you need to do this?

I can match any colour and style silk flowers and arrangements for future Brides and Grooms to suit your wedding theme.

artificial_wedding_flowers_nailsea

Q: How long does it normally take you to make a bouquet and how long would you suggest couples order before their wedding?

Bridal, Bridesmaidand Flower Girl bouquets, Buttonholes for the groom, corsages and table displays will be created and ready for collection within two weeks of placing the order, however I would advise you to order two months prior your wedding day.

Q: What can Brides & Grooms expect when they come to Chic Blooms for their wedding flowers?

I offer a free consultation with the option to pay monthly installments with a small deposit making it easier for you as weddings can be very costly.

With my expertise and creative skills you will endear a stress free experience leading up to your special day.

bridal_bouquets_bristol_chic_blooms

Q: What’s your biggest achievement to date? (Doesn’t have to wedding or flower related).

My biggest acheivement is being lucky enough to be able to come to work and enjoy what I do, plus having the advantage of bringing a smile to all my customers and perhaps in the future I would like to expand and have the opportunity to employ future staff.

Emergency at Pamella & Dean’s Wedding

There are times in life when you get a that strange feeling in the bottom of your stomach when you just know that something’s not quite right. That’s what happened to Pamella on her special day, luckily she took it all in her stride and didn’t let it ruin an amazing day!

Fire_Engine_Wedding_3

I met Dean on holiday in Portugal  6 years ago and he proposed 6 months later.  We married in St. Nicholas church in Canewdon on 28th July.

I had trouble finding a dress that I loved….I tried on so many…I liked them all but never found “the one”! So I bought one that I liked and had it made into one I loved! It was a dress from wed2b. I didn’t like the netting on it and the train was too long so both had to go. I then had a skirt made for over the top with a smaller train and I loved it!

We didn’t have a theme for our wedding day, I used my favourite colours, purple, lilac, white, cream. The bridesmaids wore purple dresses. The Groom, his Dad, the Best Man and my Son, who gave me away, all had ties and handkerchiefs to match the bridesmaids dresses. We had a horse & carriage and the horses wore a purple feather head dress. My table centrepieces had a mix of all these colours.

Windswept_weddings_2

The morning of the wedding was very relaxed. Myself and 1 of my bridesmaids (we had 5) stayed at a hotel the night before so no one would see me before arriving at the church.

The wedding was at 2pm so we had a few glasses of prosecco as we got ready. The photographer was due at 12 and arrived early which then threw us into turmoil! We were rushing about to join the other bridesmaids for photographs before we were picked up. I think this is were things started to go haywire!

The horse & carriage ride to the church was wonderful, it was a bit windy, but no way did I want the roof covering us, so I was rather windswept when we arrived at the church. During the ceremony my husband to be tried to put his ring on my finger which gave us the giggles, then there was a mix up with the music and we walked out to here comes the bride, it just made us laugh more.

Fire_Engine_Wedding_1

Outside for photographs the wind had really picked up and my dress/skirt was blowing up over my head. The photographer then wanted us to go back inside the church for more pics. I could see my husband was getting a bit agitated but brushed it off. Little did I know the photographer had had a call from the best man to tell him to keep us there as long as possible while they tried to make safe the smaller marquee which had started to move in the strong wind. The horsemen had also been asked to take a longer route back to the house. My husband had guessed there must be something wrong.

Marquet_wedding_9

On the journey back to house I could here sirens behind us so I informed the horsemen, the fire brigade had seen horses ahead and turned off the sirens as they got closer. At that moment one of the horses started neighing and jumping to the left. The horsemen pulled the carriage over and discovered the bolt that holds the horses together must of come loose and had dropped off, one of the ran up the road to find it as the fire brigade passed us. We joked that maybe the caterers had set fire to something.

Windswept_weddings_6

On arriving back home the fire brigade was parked in our field and everyone was running towards us. Our smaller marquee had took flight and landed on top of the main one! There was chaos and panic all around us but we couldn’t stop laughing. My new husband had organised a string quartet as a surprise for me when we got back and they had been removed from inside by the firemen and we playing in the garden. We asked the caterers to carry on with the drinks outside, drinks were handed out and the string quartet played while the firemen did their job. It was fantastic! 2 hours later when all was made safe the firemen posed with us for some photographs.

Mr_and_Mrs_Wedding_Photo_7

The 2 hour extra drinking time and all the excitement before the wedding breakfast certainly got everyone in a good mood and everyone was in party mode by the time we finished the speeches! The evening guests started to arrive soon after and were excited to hear the tales of the day. We had an 8 piece band for the night, Glitterball The Band, and before we knew it the 1st dance was over and the night was in full swing. I got to bed a lot earlier than some of the others, 4.30 am! What a fabulous night.

Fire_Engine_Wedding_4

We have a large garden and 2 fields at home where the reception was being held. We had the main marquee in one and as we had a lot of guests coming from Liverpool there was motorhomes and tents in the other.

Marquet_wedding_8

As ppl were staying for the weekend we wanted to keep everyone entertained and had made some games for everyone to play and had a north vs south competition. I’m from Liverpool Dean is from Essex. We started at 4.30 with a BBQ at 6 and another band for the evening, The singsong Club. They brought shakers, tambourines and an extra mic so anyone could join in. They were fantastic!

I would never of expected our wedding to make the news but it did…It was in The Southend Echo….The Liverpool Echo…..The Mirror online…..The Mail Online and will be in a national magazine! How funny?

My advice to other brides would be not to panic, if something does go wrong only you would know so it won’t bother anyone. I didn’t bother with favours and they were neither missed nor mentioned.

Bargain_Wedding_Buy_5

My bargain buy was my shoes….£5 from a charity shop.

Navy Blue Weddings

Navy Blue Wedding Moodboard

The 2017 wedding season is gathering pace so it’s time to start refreshing our mood boards and putting some new wedding ideas together. I’ve never considered navy blue as a run of the mill wedding colour, it’s a very strong and bold natural colour, although used sparingly can be beautifully effective.

WeddingCake_Cake Central

It’s really very versatile in the colours it will compliment be it peach, grey, silver or even blush pink. Of course most of all, with it being such a striking colour it contrasts wonderfully with whites, creams and champagne colours of the brides wedding dress.

Bridesmaids_Modern Wedding

You can also create some beautiful and stylish effects by using nave blue laces on your tables, wedding invitations or even wedding cake without the richness of the blue becoming overpowering. Navy blue organza sashes are very nice addition to chair covers as well.

There’s plenty of naturally blue flowers that you can choose to suit a navy blue wedding theme, which can also be contrasted with in your bouquets or button holes. You can also go a little bit different with Navy Blue for the Groom and Best Man if you feel so inclined. As earlier suggested it’s a great contrasting colour with peaches, pink or even mint greens so as to not to become completely overtaken by blue, unless that’s what you want.

Invite_Etsy

That’s the beauty of creating your own moodboard for your wedding planning, you can visualise much better how things will look and feel before seeing it all together on the big day. They’re also really useful to show various suppliers when you’re at the planning stage or going round wedding shows, you never know they might have suggestions you’ve never thought of!

Bowen Technique that could help with Scarring

There are may women out there who have had a mastectomy or who are going to be having a mastectomy. This is a very distressing and daunting time for them and also family & friends.

It is extremely important that you have a great support network around you, for many this is family and friends, however it is also important to have support from others, ladies who have been through the same experience as you are going or about to be through.

This will allow you to find out first hand what is happening and also what to expect. You will also find lots of tips that might help… such as this Bowen Technique Therapy which was suggested.

Here is a few questions I have asked Nicola about this technique…

•Would you say that the Bowen Technique can help with post surgery pains and discomfort?

Absolutely. A surgery of any kind is invasive. A surgeon will be cutting through the delicate layers and tissues of the body to reach the intended area of treatment. Upon reaching the site, there will be further invasive work, created by instruments and the surgeon working in the specific area. Whilst surgeons generally try to keep this to a minimum, ultimately scar tissue will form. Bowen technique looks to reconnect the body. Aiming to relieve pain, discomfort and aid the healing process. This ethos is also applied to scar tissue specifically – no matter how old.

• What will the Bowen technique offer the client after after surgery, i.e., body balance, realignment etc?

This will be different for each client. Ultimately, Bowen treats the whole person. Whether the clients wishes to interpret this as realignment or re-balancing, is up to them. What the treatment doesn’t do, is manipulate. A Bowen ‘move’ comprises a gentle rolling movement over a precise area dense in nerve receptors. No two treatments are ever the same. We treat the body that is present on the day.

•What advice would you offer clients who have come to you having had surgery?

Listen to your body. Follow your doctors advice. Drink plenty of water. Get a Bowen treatment as soon as possible!

  • Are there any points you would recommend or like to stress for clients that we could shout about on our Facebook page for you?
DRINK – the good stuff. Plenty of water – sorry, with fermented grapes / barley or infused tea leaves or coffee beans, doesn’t count! Breath into your diaphragm. Get the right bra fit. If you’re in pain – book a Bowen session. Don’t wait.

SPECIAL OFFER

Nicola is also able to offer scar specific work. This is an amazing price of ONLY  £25 for an hour’s treatment. Appointments are available during the day on Wednesday’s & 6-8pm Monday – Friday.
If you would like to know anymore about Bowen Technique Therapy please feel free to contact Nicola Pike below…

The importance of wearing a correctly fitted nursing bra.

It is such a magical time in a women’s life when you find out that you are expecting! Your first thoughts are, I wonder if we are having a boy or a girl? We should start decorating the spare room… and most importantly, you have the excitement of choosing names.

After a while the over excitement wears off  and whilst you are still overjoyed you start to think about an notice the other side of pregnancy, such as the morning sickness, the weight gain and change in moods. Over the coming weeks you will feel more focused once your emotions settle down. You may feel the need to start nesting, and part of this is getting thing ready for when baby is born.

The nursery/babies room will more than likely be first on the agenda followed closely by which buggy/stroller to have, however as you start to show more you will need new clothes and underwear. The correct fitting nursing bra is a very important item to be on the list to purchase.

When choosing a nursing bra, it is important that you get a suitable comfortable and supportive bra. If you choose to breast-feed, you’ll need a nursing bra where the cups can open and close easily, with plenty of room for your little one to sit comfortably (and for you to feel comfortable too!). It’s essential that the bra is supportive but not constrictive as this can cause medical problems like mastitis or blocked ducts.

If you choose to breast-feed, you might find that using breast pads inside your bra helps to reduce any leakages: a night-time nursing bra can also be helpful for this.

One of the most important things to remember about buying a good nursing bra is not to jump the gun and get a new bra too early on in your pregnancy. You might have noticed already that your breasts have got bigger – it’s likely that they’ll grow even more after the birth so it’s important to wait until near the end of the pregnancy until you get measured for a nursing bra. importance of wearing a correctly fitted nursing bra.

Sophie Maternity Bra

Here are a few tips for buying a maternity bra

* Always invest in a good quality bras. It is most important that you are wearing a supportive yet comfortable bra, (some of the cheaper brands do not have the same structure and support as other brands)

* A correctly fitting maternity/nursing bra should still sit the same way as your everyday bra, flat against your ribs cage.

* A none wired bra is best as they are more comfortable and there is less chance of your underwires causing any issues with your milk ducts as your breast grow. Many nursing & maternity bras now have what is known as re-inforced cotton in place of the underwire. This is where designers have added extra cotton in the shape of an underwire to maximise support and comfort for each breast as they develop and become heavier.

* You will see that most good supportive nursing & maternity bras have wider straps that you may be use to on your everyday bras. This is to help support the growing weight of your breast as the become larger. It is your back that should take the weight of your breasts and to do this you will require good strong straps, the wider they are the less they will dig in to your shoulders and cause you discomfort.

* Maternity bras can be worn to bed if you feel comfortable doing this, it can help to prevent leakage in bed. Simply add a breast pad in to you bra before you go to bed, this should usually last till the morning, however you can add two for extra protection.

* When getting fitted you will be advised to purchase a bra that fits you on the tightest setting, this will help save money in the long run as it means that you can loosen your bra as your as you grow.

* We would recommend that you book in for a fitting when you start to show or when you notice that you everyday bra is no longer suitable, (this is usually around 12-16 weeks in to your pregnancy) and have regular fittings thereafter, (this does not mean new bras each time, but simply to make sure that your bra is still supportive and most of all comfortable for you) especially one at about 4 weeks before baby is due to make sure that your bra is still suitable for when baby is born and your milk starts to come through, this is when your breast will increase in size quite rapidly.

* As with all bras, we advise that you hand wash them. This will help preserve your bra and keep it looking newer for longer. Hand washing your bra will help to maintain its original shape and fit as apposed to a washing machine which will over time distort the shape and fit of your bra.

        Bristol & Somerset Wedding Awards

Bridal Accessories Award Winner

After some procrastinating the decision to enter the Bristol & Somerset Wedding Awards under the category of Bridal Accessories was taken. Why the indecision? It had been a busy 2016 for us, finally taking the plunge and opening our own independent lingerie shop in Nailsea, near Bristol. This in itself had brought along with it many steep learning curves and still does as any business owner will testify to! We would also be up against some tough competition and felt we were certain to be the underdog going into any such competition.

 Wedding Wishing Well Foundation

The Bristol & Somerset Wedding Awards is really a charity event hosted by a most worthy charity organisation; The Wedding Wishing Well. A charity set up to help couples suffering a terminal or life limiting illness realise their dream and become joined together in marriage. It was an award ceremony judged not solely on popularity but on Brides feedback on your quality and service. The ceremony was to be a black tie event held at the Double Tree by Hilton at Cadbury House, it was to be a night out and an excuse to dressed up if nothing else!

Moonrise Lingerie Bristol

February soon arrived and the tickets arrived, thick red card adorned with black lace, a feather and some gold trimmings. The scene was set! The usual last minute panic manifested itself when trying to leave the house on time, a few minor wardrobe malfunctions along with a few tears from children and we were on our way.

Bristol and Somerset Wedding Awards 2017

Met by the magnificent frontage of The Cadbury House Hotel, we were directed to The Great Room where guests were already mingling, enjoying conversation and more importantly a glass of Prosecco! Can-Can girls put on a show as we were all ushered to take our seats in the fabulously themed Moulin Rouge venue. It wasn’t long before the fund-raising began for The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, with a game of play your cards right and a raffle with an auction to follow!

Moonrise Lingerie Wedding Awards Winner

Then came the Awards part of the evening, the part that all were anxiously awaiting. The hope that all of your hard work throughout the last wedding season was going to be recognised by your Brides to Be and acknowledged by many suppliers from across the industry. From Photographers, Cake Makers, Wedding Planners, Venue Dressers and Entertainers, we were all there. First up, Bridal Accessories, “and our first winner this evening is……..Moonrise Lingerie!”
